Our Pick For Lessons

Why choose a DUO

Choosing a Happy Nappy DUO or Jammers DUO for your Water Babies lessons offers so many benefits:

Twice as safe: featuring 2 waterproof layers for added security, the DUO does not only protect against solid leaks to the pool. Thanks to its silver lining inner layer, it also helps destroy bacteria and viruses that chlorine alone can't.

Hassle-free: as the DUO has been approved as an all-in-one Double Nappy System, there's no need for under nappies during swimming lessons, making your pool prep a breeze. Just add some biodegradable or cloth liners for even easier changing and cleaning.

Cost-effective & Eco-friendly: because the DUO is a 2-in-1 swim nappy, you won't need to purchase any disposables or nappy wraps to wear underneath, making it a more affordable option in the long run. Designed so you never need a single-use swim nappy again, reduces carbon footprint by generating less waste and contributing to keep down the number of disposables that are sent to landfills or incinerators.

Looking after your DUO

1. If there's been a 'code brown', simply turn out the inner liner and empty any solids into the toilet. You can use biodegradable or cloth liners for easier changing and to help protect the nappy.

2. Rinse the Happy Nappy or Jammers in cold water and store it in a wet bag until you are back home. If you want to keep swimming then simply rinse the silver lining, and your little one can put it back on.

If needed, once back home you can also chuck it in the washing machine with the rest of your laundry, using a 30º cycle and non-bio detergent. Avoid using softener and try to wash full loads.

3. To dry, simply make sure the inner liner is pulled out, as that makes it easier to dry all the way through. Another drying method is to roll them in a towel and lay them flat to dry, always away from direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry or iron your DUO.

FAQs

  • The Double Layer Nappy System is a reliable and hygienic solution designed to provide maximum protection in the water for you, your little one, and the rest of swimmers. It consists of two layers: a secure inner layer (preferably reusable, like a swim under nappy or nappy wrap), and a snug-fitting outer layer, typically made of neoprene or similar material. This system helps contain any accidents while ensuring a comfortable and flexible fit for your little one, allowing them to move freely during their swimming lessons.

  • There are many brands of reusable swim nappies out there, but the Happy Nappy products and Jammers, both manufactured by Splash About, are the only ranges allowed as the outer layer for the double nappy system during your Water Babies lessons. After more than 20 years in the water, we know they are the most reliable nappies against solid leaks into the pool, while prioritising the comfort and freedom of movement of the little ones wearing them.

  • The Happy Nappy is a fitted reusable swim nappy, made of super soft 1mm thick neoprene. Ergonomically designed and shaped to cup little ones’ bottoms to prevent any gaping, the Happy Nappy features specialist fabric on the waist and thighs to form a secure seal which will hold in solids. The Happy Nappy is available in a wide range of sizes, from newborn to 4 – 5 years.

The Jammers offer the same assurance of a Happy Nappy™ but in a more grown up and sporty design, so toddlers won’t feel like they’re wearing a swim nappy! Also made from supple 1mm thick neoprene with snug waist, the Jammers feature medical grade silicone seals around the thighs to hold in solids. Designed to look like regular swim shorts, the Jammers are the perfect solution for older toddlers, running in sizes from 2 – 3 years to 5 – 6 years.

  • They are! In the case of the Happy Nappy, they’re fitted nappies, coming in a pull-on style. As shaped nappies, the nappy shape is already there thanks to the elastic legs and waist. The Jammers are designed to look like regular swim shorts, so they also come in a convenient pull-on style. If it’s your first time using Happy Nappy or Jammers and would like a bit of extra assistance, head to our dressing and fitting guide here.

  • If your little one is wearing the Happy Nappy DUO, you don’t need anything else for your Water Babies lesson, since the inner layer is already integrated as part of the same product. Nice and easy, right?

If they are wearing Original Happy Nappy or Splash Jammers, there are different options. Although single-use nappies are allowed as the inner layer, there are plenty of reusable choices available which are better for the environment, like Splash About Nappy Wraps or Under Nappies.

We recommend the Silver Lining Nappy Wrap, which comes in a pull-on style and includes anti-bacterial properties, while helping prevent nappy rash! This is the same technology you’ll find in the lining of the DUO range.

But different styles and brands work best for different little ones and their carers. For instance, the Cotton Nappy Wrap works with Velcro instead of a pull-on style; and the Adjustable Nappy Wrap includes poppers, which some families might prefer. This is completely up to you!

  • Most options available to layer underneath your Original Happy Nappy or Jammers work very similarly to standard nappies. Like with regular cloth nappies, they come in a variety of styles: pull-on, poppers or Velcro fastening to fit around your little one’s waist. If your little one is wearing a DUO, the under nappy is already built-in, just like the lining in regular swim shorts.

  • In the case of the Original Happy Nappy and Splash Jammers, your little one will be wearing two different layers as part of the Double Nappy System; the nappy wrap or under nappy isn’t attached to the neoprene swim nappy. You can learn more about the different reusable options available as the inner layer in “Reducing the Environmental Impact of the Double Layer Nappy System”.

For the DUO range, your little one only needs one product to conform with the Double Nappy System, since the inner layer is attached to the Happy Nappy DUO or Jammers DUO. You don’t need this, but we do recommend adding some biodegradable or cloth liners if wearing a DUO, since they’ll make changing and cleaning much easier, while protecting the nappy.

Going for the Original Happy Nappy in conjunction with an inner layer or just option for the DUO as your Double Nappy System is completely up to you; different options suit best different families and their little ones depending on their specific needs and circumstances.

  • Absolutely! If your little one is wearing a Happy Nappy Wetsuit or a Happy Nappy Costume, since the Happy Nappy is already built-in, you’ll only need the inner layer to conform with the Double Nappy System during your Water Babies lessons. We encourage you to go reusable and opt for a swim under nappy or nappy wrap instead of a disposable swim nappy, but whichever option you pick, please keep in mind there’s still the need to wear this inner layer underneath your Happy Nappy Wetsuit or Happy Nappy Costume.

  • Well, let’s be honest, changing nappies will always be a little messy, regardless which type you choose! In the case of the DUOs, the integrated silver lined under nappy will catch any solids which you can then flushed down the toilet. Because the under nappy is attached to the neoprene outer, we recommend including some biodegradable or cloth liners, so you only need to replace those to continue swimming.

If you are using the Original Happy Nappy and Jammers, having a couple of reusable nappy wraps or under nappies in rotation will come really handy during prolonged swimming sessions!

  • If your little one is wearing a DUO, that’s it, that’s all you need for a whole year swimming with us! Optionally, you can also add biodegradable or cotton liners underneath, which will make cleaning and changing easier.

If your little one is wearing an Original Happy Nappy or Splash Jammers, we recommend having a couple of reusable under nappies or nappy wraps in rotation, just in case there’s a ‘code brown’ and you need a change during your Water Babies lessons.

If your little one was wearing disposable swim nappies as the inner layer, you would need at least one per lesson. And that’s just the bare minimum, as you’d need to add spare ones in case there’s a ‘code brown’ during lessons and changing is required. That’s why we always say that, in the long run, going reusable it’s not just better for the planet, it’s also more cost-efficient!

  • We understand the joy of having a potty-trained little one, and it's fantastic progress! While your child may have mastered the potty, when it comes to swimming, using a Happy Nappy or Jammers is still a great idea. Here's why: even though they might be potty trained, accidents can still happen, especially in the excitement of swimming. The Happy Nappy and Jammers provide an extra layer of protection, giving you peace of mind and ensuring a worry-free swim session for both you and your child.

So, yes, even though your child is potty trained, using a Happy Nappy or Jammers in conjunction with an inner layer to conform with the Double Nappy System is still required. But we get it, they aren’t babies anymore! If your little one is reluctant to wear a swim nappy underneath their Jammers, why not opting for the Jammers DUO instead? Since this is a 2-in-1 product, designed to look like regular swimwear, they won’t feel like they’re wearing a nappy!

  • They definitely are! For the Original Happy Nappy and Jammers and for the DUOs, each of them will need their own according to their size, as they need to fit snugly against the body to be effective holding any solids.

For the inner layer, some include poppers to adjust the size like the Size Adjustable Nappy Wrap, or Velcro fastening, like the Cotton Nappy Wrap, so they might be able to share! Plus, your youngest will also be able to use their sibling’s Happy Nappy or Jammers once they grow up.

Any of these reusable options is much better than single-use swim nappies when having multiple children, since each of your little ones would need at least one disposable swim nappy for each of their lessons otherwise.

  • There are many retailers out there, but if you’d like some personalised assistance, require help with sizing or any further advice, you can get in touch with your local office or ask directly to your Water Babies teacher, and see what they currently have in stock. If you prefer, you can also visit our online shop here, where you’ll find a wide range of designs.

  • Finding the perfect fit for your little one can sometimes feel like a puzzle, but don't worry, we're here to help! When your child is in between sizes, it's crucial to opt for a Happy Nappy or Jammers that fit snugly against their body. Choosing a size that is too big with the hope that they'll grow into it might sound like a good idea, but in reality, it can lead to unexpected leaks and discomfort during your swimming sessions. Trust us, we've seen it happen!

So, our recommendation is to always go for the size that fits your child's current measurements best. A snug fit ensures that the nappy stays securely in place, providing the protection your little swimmer needs while they're having fun in the water. If you're unsure about sizing or have any questions, feel free to reach out to us – we're always here to assist you on your swimming journey.

  • Your Water Babies teacher will be more than happy to help you with this. Or you can also head to our Happy Nappy and Jammers dressing guide and fit check here.

  • By using reusable swim nappies we are generating considerably less waste. Using disposable swim nappies means that the nappy will be incinerated or sent to landfill after just one single use. That’s at least 40 to 50 nappies a year, just for one year of swimming lessons! You will only need 1 to 2 reusable swim nappies for the same period, and they can be passed on or saved for future siblings if looked after correctly, massively reducing the amount of nappy waste.

  • If you are going to start swimming with us or your little one needs to size up, consider purchasing your reusable swim nappies from your local office. This way, you will be saving on the CO2 generated from distribution.

If there hasn’t been any ‘code brown’, rinsing your Happy Nappy or Jammers in cold water should be sufficient and it’s the most eco-friendly way of getting it clean. When washing reusable swim nappies in the washing machine, consider washing it with the rest of your laundry. Try to do full loads, avoid prewashing and do not use softener. It’s always better for the environment to let them dry on a line or air dry.

Once your little one outgrows their current size, if it’s in good condition always consider passing it on to someone who might need it.

  • Most of the time, rinsing it using cold water after your swimming session will be sufficient. If you do need a more thorough wash, a maximum 30º wash with non-bio detergent will be more than enough to keep your Happy Nappy or Jammers clean. You definitely don’t need to boil wash them!

They are made of neoprene, which is a fast-drying material, so please do not use a tumble dryer either. This isn’t necessary, plus it could damage the product. In the case of the DUOs, simply make sure the inner liner is pulled out, as that makes it easier to dry all the way through.

If you have limited space for drying, another drying method is to roll them in a towel and lay them flat to dry, always away from direct sunlight. Do not use a tumble dryer, this isn’t necessary, plus it could damage the product.

  • We’re working on more environmentally friendly options for our packaging, including the size of the package to further decrease the carbon footprint or sending naked products when possible. Unfortunately, with the DUO we do need the polybag, as otherwise moisture in the air would make the silver in the lining active before you received the product.

  • Over time the silver ions in the nappy will deplete. The manufacturers at Splash About have carried out science experiments which show the silver depletes fully at 96 hours of use but remains active and effective at 40 hours. The 40-hour test period was in pool water and then being washed repeatedly over that period. This would equate to 80 swim sessions plus washing, which would be 2 years’ worth of lessons. Therefore, your DUO will last as long as it fits (which would be at least 1 year).

This doesn’t mean you can’t pass it on so other children can keep using it after that period; the functionality of the DUO as a double layer nappy system in one will remain the same, the only difference is it won’t be boasting the anti-bacterial properties of the silver anymore.

  • Although the upfront cost of a reusable swim nappy is higher than disposables, going reusable is the most cost-effective option in the long run, especially if used regularly, like in swimming lessons. Single-use swim nappies normally come in packs of 11 -12 units per pack, being sold at €7 - €8 per pack. This means that you’ll need at least 5 packs for just one year worth of swimming lessons. Compared to one single DUO for the same period, or one Original Happy Nappy and Jammers and the under nappy or nappy wrap.

  • The outer of the body for the Happy Nappy DUO and the Jammers DUO is made of 1mm thick neoprene, with a recycled polyester shell, using recycled polyester.  The ribs are also recycled, made of 69% nylon and 31% elastane. For the inner of the body, the material composition is 100% TPU with 100% nylon shell.

The gusset of the DUOs consists on an inner made from 100% cotton and an outer made of 92% polyester, and 8% elastane, silver coated. The DUO range incorporates a biocidal product (silver (nano): CAS No. 7440-22-4) into the fabric of the lining. Silver is included as biocide to enhance the anti-bacterial action of pool water chlorine on faecal bacteria.

  • At Water Babies, we want to be completely open about our commitment to environmental sustainability, including our vow to diminish nappy waste. While neoprene offers numerous benefits applied to reusable swim nappies and wetsuits, it’s essential for us to acknowledge the environmental toll associated with neoprene. Because of their synthetic components, neoprene doesn’t degrade easily, taking hundreds of years to decompose when they end up in landfills. It’s also incredibly hard to recycle. In fact, neoprene can only be downcycled into other products. You wouldn’t be able to create another wetsuit from an old wetsuit.

That's why we're working hard with Splash About, our long-standing manufacturers and suppliers, to explore alternatives like Yulex, derived from the guayule plant, which promises similar performance with a smaller environmental footprint.

Meanwhile, responsible usage and proper care can help mitigate the impact of neoprene products, such as wetsuits or reusable nappies. Through their ability to be used more than once, and then passed on when little ones outgrow them, we can contribute to reducing the environmental harm of polychloroprene. This is why we only stock high-quality neoprene products made to last.
